The Reverend Jonathan Donald Rowe

Introduction

The Reverend Jonathan Donald Rowe
Rector, Parish of St. Michael and All Angels
Mission Dean, St. John’s/Goulds & The Transfiguration

I was born and raised in St. John’s, but went away to university. I was ordained in the Diocese of
Western Newfoundland (Deacon in 2002 and Priest in 2003) and served in parishes on the west
coast of Newfoundland, Trinity Bay, and in St. John’s.
I have been married to Emily for the last twenty-one years, and we share our home with a
precocious teenager named Frances and a terrier/retriever mutt named Margot. We live in and
care for one of the oldest houses in the city on the edge of the Georgestown neighbourhood.
Sometimes people ask ‘Aren’t you too young to be bishop?’ Where else but in the church would
being in your forties make you ‘too young’ for anything? But youth gives me a better perspective
on sustainability. With a young family, I need to think about the future of the church with longer
horizons.
