Recommended books by the Commission:

Divine Renovation by Fr. James Mallon is very timely in light of the work of the Diocesan Commission on Parish Renewal and Viability. The book is a product of how three declining Roman Catholic parishes in Halifax decided to amalgamate into one parish (St. Benedict’s). With a brand new modern building they were able to rid themselves of all the cultural nuances of a maintenance parish and focus on mission. The book offers a blueprint for doing just that. It is a great example of what it means to be a missional parish.  For more info visit: https://www.divinerenovation.net/

Liturgy on the Edge is edited by Samuel Wells, Vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London, UK. The subtitle is ‘pastoral and attractional worship.’ The book offers practical insights on worship and creative liturgy. These liturgies are designed to serve and celebrate the neighbourhood in which the church exists enabling the church’s mission in the community. This is must read.
